I prepared my own tax return when I was 11 years old after my father, having given me a form W-2, said that if I filed a tax return I could get all my money back that he withheld from my wages earned for working part time for him. Heeding my father's advice, I devoured all the information I could find that was written about tax preparation and which was mostly available from the IRS at the local post office. Later in life in my first job working for the local utility company in my hometown, a fellow employee asked if I could prepare his family's tax return and I did so. I did it as a favor but he insisted he pay me for my effort which became my first earnings from tax preparation.
