Solve Serious Tax Problems Nationwide With An Ex-IRS Special Agent; Call For Your Free Consultation.

About C. Steven Boon

I help people who are in over their heads with the IRS. Before opening my practice, I served as a Special Agent in IRS Criminal Investigation, where I learned how the IRS functions, how auditors and Revenue Officers work, and how cases really move behind the scenes. That background shapes how I approach every matter: clear facts, straight answers, and a plan that actually works.

Taxes and financial problem-solving are my passion. I have a degree in Accounting and also an MBA. I hold an Enrolled Agent credential issued by the IRS and am authorized to represent clients nationwide.

Most of my clients come to me with problems they’ve tried to handle on their own: notices piling up, years of unfiled returns, balances that won’t go away, CP2000/AUR issues, payroll tax messes, or exams where the IRS wants more than they can realistically provide. My job is to take that weight off their shoulders, sort out the mess, and get them back to solid ground.

Along with my case work, I teach tax professionals in continuing education courses as well as industry events. I also co-authored Erase the Penalty: A Professional’s Guide to Abatement, which many practitioners use to sharpen their own penalty abatement skills.

My practice is intentionally small so I can stay hands-on with every case. Clients who work with me don’t get passed around or pushed to a call center. They deal with me directly. I'm the person who reads their file, builds their strategy, and talks to the IRS on their behalf.

What I Handle:

Serious IRS balances and collections cases.
Payment plans, compliance cleanup, penalty relief, and long-term strategy for high-balance taxpayers.

Multi-year non-filers.
Getting individuals and business owners back on track when the problem has gone from “I’ll do it later” to “I don’t even know where to start.”

AUR / CP2000 notices.
Fast, accurate responses to the IRS’s automated inquiry system. This is an area where speed and clarity matter.

Correspondence and office examinations.
Helping clients navigate exams that hinge on documentation, reconstruction, and making sure the IRS actually understands what happened.

High-stakes cleanup work.
Fixing multi-year problems for contractors and businesses when the books, filings, or prior advice have gone sideways.

Penalty abatement.
When the IRS has assessed penalties, my published work on penalty relief guides a lot of my approach.

Appeals and field exams (selectively).
I take these when the case calls for a careful, narrative-driven strategy and when the client is ready to do things the right way.

How I Work:

I don’t promise miracles. What I offer is a clear path forward, steady communication, and a level of experience that only comes from having seen the IRS from the inside.

If your tax situation has reached the point where it’s affecting your life, your business, or your sleep, I can help you get control of it and move forward with a clean slate and a solid plan.

When you’re ready to sort it out, I’m ready to talk.

Worked on Case Together | Jan 29, 2026
I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside Steve Boon on an IRS correspondence examination, and I can say without hesitation that his depth of knowledge of IRS procedures is exceptional. His background and practical experience show up immediately in how he approaches exams, notices, transcripts, and IRS communications.

During our work together, Steve demonstrated a clear, methodical command of IRS process, from understanding how and why the IRS frames issues to knowing the most effective way to respond and resolve them. He is calm, precise, and strategic, which is exactly what you want when dealing with the IRS on behalf of a client.

For tax professionals looking to collaborate or refer cases involving IRS correspondence exams, audits, or procedural issues, Steve brings a level of insight and professionalism that is both rare and valuable.

Mr. Boon helped me resolve my deceased brothers tax issues and helped me work with the IRS to get them paid correctly and promptly. He worked diligently and made it easy by communicating with the IRS to resolve several issues. I recommend using his group, Boon Tax Group LLC, for any tax or IRS issues you may have. Greatly priced.
