Review
If only I had found Morgan and her team at Golden Lion six years earlier, I would have saved thousands of dollars and avoided years of frustration, anxiety, and worry in dealing with the IRS. My first mistake was thinking I should go with a well-advertised local tax-resolution firm when the IRS came knocking in 2016. I was afraid of the IRS, and this firm played on that, promising they had the expertise to fix it. I got feared into paying way too much money for three years of incompetence that resulted in the rejection of our offer in compromise due to their mistakes.
I then tried to tackle the situation on my own with the assistance of my cousin, a recently retired IRS agent. Long story short, there is only so much an ex-IRS agent can do, and two years later, we hit a dead end. The IRS refused to accept the original OIC from 2016, and because my financial situation had improved, there was no way I could requalify for a new OIC. In desperation, I contacted the office of my US congressman, former Representative Ken Buck, and spent another year getting nowhere fast. I was desperate, I was depressed, and I was feeling helpless.
That's when a mutual colleague introduced me to Golden Lion. I was initially skeptical, having gone through what I had with the previous firm, so I got my cousin, the ex-IRS agent, on a conference call with Morgan. Our takeaway was mutual: Morgan had the expertise in working with the IRS and was passionate about it, with years of experience and a highly qualified team supporting her. I remember signing the contract with a renewed sense of hope. It took several months and a lot of work on their end, but Morgan never gave up, taking my case to the highest levels of IRS appeals. And we won! My offer in compromise from 2016 was finally accepted nine years later. With penalties and compounding interest, $154k was wiped off the books, thanks to Morgan and Golden Lion, to whom I will forever be grateful.
